SHORT SUMMARY
When I moved to Australia from Taiwan, which has a lot of light pollution, I began taking pictures of the night sky as I found myself often gazing at the stars in awe. Most of us rarely look up and hardly ever take a step back from the busy day-to-day life, to experience the wonder of it all and live in the moment. I wish everyone could reflect on their position in the universe while recognising humanity as part of nature, rather than taking ownership of it. There isn’t a part of the world people haven’t disrupted in some way, and from the perspective of the damage of light pollution, it has been challenging taking these shots.
I was inspired to create these works as a way of freeing myself from past trauma as well as encouraging myself to believe in my value as a human being. The core value behind my illustrations is creating a safe space for women to feel comfortable in mind and body, which is an issue close to my heart having suffered from poor mental health and low self-esteem. I have met so many young females who didn't realise they have been trapped in a harmful relationship with themselves. This is why my illustrations aim to create a dreamlike state of reflection on self, inspired partly by my personal journey of finding my place in the world.
